So you want off the beaten track right? Well Paraguay is the place for you. Those on South American road trips and overland adventures generally give Paraguay a wide berth in favour of its neighbours and their big ticket attractions.
That’s a good enough reason for us to visit in our opinion and we’re so pleased we did. Paraguay is delightful! The hardcore journey across the Trans-Chaco Highway is a road trip in itself. The wonderful forest reserve in Mbaracayu is a wildlife haven and nature trails along the Parana River are a bird lovers paradise – and free!

Our overland route in Paraguay
So far, we’ve travelled along Paraguay’s eastern border with Brazil, and along the Trans-Chaco Highway to the northwest border of Bolivia. Further into our South America overland trip we may return to discover Paraguay’s southern regions too.
