Prague is a city brimming with Gothic, Art Nouveau and Baroque architecture.
And yet amongst it all, there is a 20th century building that contrasts so dramatically, it’s almost audible. It is of course, the aptly named Fred and Ginger Dancing House of Prague.

The building is an office block. But just look at it! It’s not just another boring office building. Doesn’t it look like a man holding a woman in a dancing embrace?
The building sponsors had pretty much unlimited funding for the design and architects Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunić got to work.
They wanted something to reflect the transition from Czechoslovakia’s communist regime to democracy. As such, they designed a building of 2 parts: static and dynamic.
The building is an office block. But just look at it! It’s not just another boring office building. Doesn’t it look like a man holding a woman in a dancing embrace?
It’s hardly surprising that it was originally nicknamed Fred and Ginger. Not only was there a certain magic between Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers but they stood out amongst their nimble footed peers.
Similarly, not only does the now affectionately named Dancing House resemble a couple dancing, but its modern architecture deviates from its olde world surroundings too.
