4 Ways to Maximize RV Kitchen Cabinet Storage

As full-time RVers, we’ve learned that maximizing cabinet storage is essential to keeping a tidy and functional RV kitchen.

Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks for maximizing cabinet storage in your RV.

Add Shelves

RV cabinets can be pretty deep, making it challenging to keep items organized and easy to access.

Adding shelves to your cabinets creates more storage capacity and keeps your cabinets tidy.

You can purchase shelf risers that stack plates, cups, and bowls, making it easy to fit more items in one cabinet and create more space in another.

I like to use two or three shelf risers in each cabinet, allowing me to store more dishes and glasses.

I use one riser for cups and small dishes, another for bowls, and a third for larger plates.

This way, I can stack each item type neatly and still have plenty of space.

In addition to shelf risers, you can install wire shelves in your cabinets to create more vertical space.

These shelves are handy for storing items like pots and pans, which can be hard to stack.

Adding shelves to your kitchen cabinets allows you to double your storage capacity and keep your kitchen organized and functional.

Use Tension Rods

Tension rods are another clever solution for maximizing your RV cabinets’ space.

These rods can be installed inside your cabinets to store flat items such as cutting boards, pot lids, or baking pans.

Place the items vertically between the tension rods, and voila – you’ve created more cabinet space!

We like to use tension rods to store cutting boards and baking pans, as they are typically flat and take up a lot of cabinet space.

By using tension rods, I can keep these items organized and easily accessible without causing clutter in my cabinets.

And they prevent everything from falling out once the cabinet door is opened.

Plus, they’re super easy to install and adjust as needed.

Hang Baskets

Hanging small baskets inside your RV kitchen cabinets is another excellent solution for canned goods, small jars, or other items that may be challenging to store in a cabinet.

By hanging baskets on the insides of your cabinets, you’re eliminating the need for these items to stand upright and take up valuable vertical space.

You can also use baskets to store your kitchen towels, which frees up shelf space for other items.

Use Clear Plastic Bins

Clear plastic bins are a fantastic storage solution for your RV kitchen cabinets.

These bins can store small items such as spices, tea bags, baking supplies, or snack foods. By using clear bins, you can easily see what’s inside, making it easier to find what you need.

I like to use clear bins to store my baking supplies, such as baking powder, baking soda, and yeast.

By keeping all of these items in one bin, I can quickly grab them when I’m ready to start baking.

You can also use clear bins to group your spices by type or store different tea bags in separate bins.

Clear bins can also help prevent items from getting lost in the back of your cabinets.

By separating items into similar categories, you can find what you need at a glance and keep your cabinets organized.

Maximizing Wall Space: Transform Your RV Kitchen

One of the most overlooked spaces in an RV kitchen is the wall. Yet, it offers numerous possibilities to create efficient storage solutions.

Here are some ideas for transforming your RV kitchen wall into an organizational marvel.

Magnetic Knife Strip

A magnetic knife strip is a fantastic tool for RV kitchens. It keeps your knives within easy reach and saves valuable drawer and counter space.

Choose a stainless steel version for durability and easy cleaning.

Ensure it has a solid magnet to hold your knives securely.

We recommend putting the knives away while you’re on the road.

Wall-mounted Spice Rack

Spices are essential for delicious meals on the road, but they can take up a lot of space.

A wall-mounted spice rack can solve this problem.

Opt for a magnetic version or one with small shelves. This way, you can have your favorite spices handy without cluttering the countertop.

Paper Towel Holder

A wall-mounted paper towel holder is another great idea.

It keeps paper towels within easy reach and frees up counter space. Some models even include a shelf on top for additional storage.

Hanging Fruit Basket

A hanging fruit basket can be a stylish and functional addition to your RV kitchen.

It provides easy access to fruits and vegetables while freeing up counter space. Plus, it adds a touch of hominess to your RV kitchen.

Pegboards

Pegboards are incredibly versatile. You can hang pots, pans, utensils, and even mugs with a pegboard on your kitchen wall.

Customizable and easy to install, they’re a great way to make the most of your wall space.

5 Ways to Maximize Drawer Storage

As a full-time RVing family, we know firsthand how essential it is to have enough storage in our RV.

And let’s face it – there’s never enough storage!

That’s why maximizing every inch of space we have is crucial, including our drawers.

Drawer Dividers

Drawer dividers are a game-changer when it comes to maximizing drawer storage.

They’re perfect for keeping items organized and in place, especially when driving.

We use drawer dividers for everything from utensils and flatware to clothing and gadgets.

One of the best things about drawer dividers is that they come in many different sizes and materials, from bamboo to plastic.

We recommend measuring your drawers’ inside dimensions before purchasing to ensure you get the right size.

Use Drawer Bins

Drawer bins and dividers are essential for maximizing RV drawer space.

You can organize your utensils and other kitchen tools more effectively using separate compartments.

Using tall dividers for your cooking utensils and small ones for your silverware are examples of keeping your utensil drawers tidy and making it easy to find what you need.

We like to use drawer bins to keep measuring cups and spoons together and easy to access.

It also helps keep our drawers tidy and prevents everything from getting jumbled together.

Stackable Containers

Stackable containers are a great way to maximize drawer storage by using vertical space in deeper drawers.

They’re perfect for storing snacks, toys, and craft supplies.

Try finding stackable containers with lids to ensure your items stay in place while on the road.

To make the most of the space, try to find containers that are the same size or close to it.

This will ensure that they stack neatly, leaving no wasted space.

Plus, by having everything in a container, you can easily slide the container in and out of the drawer to access the items inside.

Use Collapsible Kitchen Accessories

One of the biggest challenges of RV living is the limited available space, especially in the kitchen area.

But that doesn’t mean we must sacrifice having the things we need or want to cook meals.

That’s where collapsible kitchen accessories come in handy. They are perfect space savers for an RV kitchen.

Collapsible kitchen accessories can fold into much smaller sizes, making them easy to store in drawers. Some examples of collapsible RV kitchen accessories include:

Using collapsible kitchen accessories, you can free up space in your kitchen drawers and organize your space.

Plus, they’re a great lightweight option, easy to clean and store, and ideal for RVers who are always on the move.

Take Advantage of Nesting Accessories

Another great way to maximize drawer space in your RV kitchen is by using nesting accessories.

Nesting accessories stack inside each other, allowing you to store multiple items without taking up too much space. These can include items like mixing bowls, pots, and pans.

We have a set of pots and pans that nest inside each other and take up less space in the drawer than our previous individual pots and pans.

Not only do nesting accessories save space, but they also make it easier to organize your kitchen items.

RV Pantry Storage Ideas to Maximize Space

Assessing our pantry space is essential when looking for suitable RV kitchen storage ideas.

Look at the shelves, drawers, and cabinets to see what you’re working with and determine the most efficient way to use the space.

Consider the shelves’ height, depth, and width to determine the right organizational strategy for your needs.

Many RVers struggle with their pantry space, whether deep shelving, narrow shelves, tall cabinets, or just too small of a space.

These issues can make organizing and accessing items in your RV pantry difficult, limiting convenience and organization on the road.

Here are a few creative solutions to working around some of these challenges to make your RV pantry more organized.

RV Kitchen Storage Ideas for food and kitchen gadgets

Deep Shelving

Deep shelving can be challenging when it comes to organizing an RV pantry.

It takes time to quickly grab items from the back of the shelf or even see what you have stored in those far-back corners.

This means that items often get forgotten and expire before being used!

Look for solutions that work best with your specific storage needs.

Portable shelves are great for creating additional space on existing shelves. Also, install cabinet organizers to create a more efficient organization system in your pantry.

Installing a sliding shelving unit is the most convenient solution in an RV kitchen. You can buy these pull out kitchen cabinet organizers in various dimensions to find one that fits your pantry perfectly.

Utilizing stackable containers and vertical risers are other ways to maximize deep shelving organizational potential.

Narrow Shelves

Narrow shelves are a great way to use every nook and cranny in an RV, but they’re also not practical for larger items.

Try investing in racks for narrow shelves that better utilize the limited vertical space.

Stackable containers or door organizers can help prevent unwanted movement or disorganization in these tighter spaces!

Similarly, using risers can help reduce clutter when storing larger items like bags of chips while creating more space underneath them.

Finally, plate holders are also great solutions for narrow shelving as they support keeping plates neat and organized.

Tall Cabinets

RV pantries tend to be tall cabinets. Consider using this to your advantage.

A tall narrow pantry could be the perfect storage space for your RV vacuum or other bulky items!

Tall cabinet space makes organizing taller containers easier too. They can usually hold larger items such as cereal boxes but come with particular challenges, like reaching the topmost shelf!

Items stored on higher levels may also be forgotten if not organized properly.

Another option is utilizing over-the-door organizers, which will provide extra storage options both inside cabinets and outside on doors leading into the pantry area — freeing up precious countertop real estate too!

Maximize Counter Space

One of our biggest challenges is the limited counter space in our tiny RV kitchen set-ups.

This can make cooking and meal prep difficult, as there’s often little room to work with.

Fortunately, there are ways to maximize counter space in an RV kitchen. Here are some tips that have worked for us:

Cover Your Sink with a Cutting Board or Countertop Material

This is one of the easiest solutions for creating more flat space to work.

Many newer RV models come with covers that fit over the sink, but you can also purchase cutting boards or countertop material separately if needed.

Add a Countertop Extension

Countertop extensions are great for adding extra workspace when needed.

They usually fold up against the wall when not in use, so they only take up a little room.

Plus, they’re easy to install and can be found at most RV supply stores.

Hang Things Under & Inside Cabinets

Take advantage of all available RV storage space by hanging things under and inside cabinets whenever possible.

This will free up more counter space while keeping your RV kitchen organized and clutter-free.

Dry Dishes Over the Sink

Rather than taking up precious counter space with a dish rack, try drying dishes over the sink instead.

This will give you more room to work while still allowing you to keep your dishes clean and dry.

These roll-up dish racks are ideal for RV living and require very little storage space when not in use.
